The towpath will unfortunately remain closed until Monday 31st July 2017, to allow the works to be completed.

Please be advised intermittent restrictions of the waterway will be required during Tuesday 4th July, to enable works required to the main area of the bridge. Craft are advised to approach the area with caution and wait for permission to proceed through if works are being undertaken.

Whilst the navigation is now fully open, the towpath will unfortunately remain closed until Monday 3rd July 2017 to allow works to be completed on the bridge.

Whilst the navigation will officially open as planned on Saturday 27th May, the towpath will unfortunately remain closed until 15th June to allow extra towpath works to be completed.

Due to some issues with this City of Wolverhampton Council (CWC) project we regret to announce that the canal will not reopen on 31st March as originally planned. The canal is due to reopen on  Saturday 27th May 2017 @ 08.00, however we are working with CWC to see if this date can be brought forward and will update this notice should this be possible. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused. Should you suffer a direct financial loss as a result of this extended stoppage please forward the details to our enquiries West Midlands email address and we’ll take it up on your behalf with CWC.

Due to unforeseen circumstances affecting the repair work being undertaken by the City of Wolverhampton at Pinfold Bridge, it will not now be possible to open the canal under the bridge during weekends in March as originally planned. The canal is due to reopen on the 31st March 2017, however we are working with the City of Wolverhampton to see if this date can be brought forward and will update this notice should this be possible. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Unfortunately, concerns about the bridge abutments stability have been identified now that the works have commenced. Therefore, the bridge will be need to be propped to avoid any potential failure. This unfortunately means that the planned winter opening will have to be cancelled to accommodate these emergency works.

At present the end date and open weekends are unaffected.

Due to these changes and to avoid any confusion, this notice supersedes all other notices relating to this stoppage.

Description

Wolverhampton Council will be replacing sections of Pinfold Bridge. The works are part of the major refurbishment of the road network in and around Wednesfield. The closure of the canal and towpath is required for the safety of its users.

The waterway will be open to canal traffic over the Christmas period dates 21-12-2016 to 03-01-2017.

As the works are now required to continue after Christmas the canal will close again to navigational traffic from 04-01-2017 to 04-03-2017. Following this period the canal will remain closed but will open up for weekends until 31-03-2017.
