Works will be completed this afternoon and the Aqueduct towpath will be fully reopen tomorrow Thursday 23rd February.

15/02/2017 09:16

It will be necessary to extend the restriction in order to complete the maintenance works currently ongoing to the Aqueduct parapets. This closure must remain in place for the safety of the public and our operatives.

The towpath will remain closed at all times up to the 28th February for safety reasons.  However the canal closure will only remain in place during daytime hours between Monday to Friday from 9am to 3pm. The Aqueduct will be open to boats prior to 9am and after 3pm and open all day on Saturday and Sunday.

We recognise that this causes significant inconvenience to customers and local businesses during half term, hence opening the canal for boat traffic during the weekend and continuing to allow a daylight window for crossings in the early mornings and late afternoons.

Description

To carry out maintenance works to the Aqueduct parapet, unfortunately it will be necessary to implement a towpath closure at all times from 30th January to 17th February 2017.

The canal will be closed during daytime hours, Monday to Saturday, from 9am to 3pm (open prior to 9am and after 3pm, in daylight hours, and open all day on Sundays)

These measures are to protect the public whilst we undertake these important works, allowing them to be undertaken safely by our operatives.
