Updates

08/06/2016 14:24

Unfortunately things have not been able to progress as quickly as we would have liked today and a further stoppage will be needed tomorrow to allow placing of concrete and time for it to set.

There will be an opportunity to pass through Locks 1 and 2 from 7.30am to 9.00am tomorrow (Thursday), any boats waiting at 9am will be allowed through.  The canal will close again then until 7.30am following morning (Friday 10th June).

This has been necessary because we weren’t able to make the progress we had hoped this morning.  The work to demolish the wash wall has taken longer and been more extensive than we originally thought.  This has meant that we will not be able to pour the new wall foundation today as originally planned and this is the work that will be done tomorrow.

We do not expect that an extension to the overall restriction for this work will be needed.

Boats can moor below Lock 1 or in Manchester, or in the pound above Lock 2.

Description

A stoppage is required as part of the restriction between locks 1 and 2 on the Ashton Canal on the 8th June to allow preparation of the lower parts of the wash wall rebuild works.

Please note a restriction is in place from 6th June – 17th June for these works. Please see restriction notice at https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/notice/7959/locks-1-2-ashton-canal for more detail.
