The repairs to this bridge have now been completed

10/03/2016 14:17

A full review of the work at Seend Wharf Bridge has been undertaken by our teams, and a new method has been found that means we can remove the props supporting the bridge arch and open navigation by Friday 11th March. Boaters may experience some minor delays or restrictions during the works for safety reasons, as alternative temporary arrangements will need to be adopted to enable concrete above the arch to be poured. Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience caused by changes to the schedule so far, if you need any further information please contact us at [email protected].

Unfortunately the repairs taking place to Seend Wharf Bridge have been more complicated than expected, and navigation on the canal will now be closed until the 22nd of March.

Once the original foundations were revealed, we had to adapt our plans for the piling necessary to secure the bridge, and the work is taking longer to complete than we’d hoped.  In addition, there have been unexpected delays getting hold of a specialist concrete needed to complete the project.  The combination of these things has meant that we’re now unable to take down the props under the bridge and reopen the canal as planned.

We apologise for the inconvenience caused by the delay, if you need any further information please contact us at [email protected]

Due to ongoing works, please note the navigation will be open from the 11th March, but the road will remain closed until 6th May 2015 latest.

Please see local diversions for further information.

The condition of the bridge has further deteriorated and the works required are critical. As a result the planned dates for this stoppage, have had to be changed. This is to allow the construction works to start as early as possible. This also means that the navigation will not be open over the Christmas period as previously planned.
