Destructor Bridge Replacement

As part of the regeneration of Bath Riverside, Destructor Bridge is being replaced with a new bridge designed to accommodate cycles, pedestrians and motor vehicles. Some local amenities will be affected due to these works which commenced in April 2015.

 River Avon Towpath

The NCN4 route has a closure applied from 20/4/15 for up to 6 months along the River Avon towpath between Windsor Bridge and Victoria Bridge. For periods within this closure the towpath will be closed and diverted for safety reason as critical elements of the bridge works progress. This is to allow demolition of the existing structure and construction of replacement bridge. A clearly signed diversion is in place directing users via Upper Bristol Road. Whenever practical and safe to do so, the towpath will reopen at times during this 6 month period.  This will be signposted weekly and can be followed @destructorbrdg on Twitter, email [email protected] or visit www.bathwesternriverside.co.uk for more information.

 Bath Recycling Centre

As a result of the works to replace Bath’s Destructor Bridge there will be works affecting Midland Road off the A4 Upper Bristol Road from 7th May 2015 for approximately 8 weeks.  This will include lane restrictions which may lead to congestion around the Bath Recycling Centre. Amended operating times may be necessary for this period. Follow @destructorbrdg on Twitter, email [email protected] or visit www.bathwesternriverside.co.uk for more information.

You may wish to consider using the Council’s other Recycling Centres in Radstock and Keynsham during this period. Visit the Bath & North East Somerset Council website for more details http://www.bathnes.gov.uk/services/bins-rubbish-and-recycling/recycling-centres-0

River Avon

The launching of the new Destructor Bridge will take place from the 18th April 2016. In order to facilitate the works the navigation between Bath Bottom Lock, Lock 7 and Weston Lock 6 will be closed and both locks locked off, during the following times.

18th April 1700-0800

19th April 1700-0800

20th April 1700-0800

Floats demarcating closure will be deployed under Victoria Bridge (Br. 201) and Winsor Bridge (Br. 203).

Please note, if you are on the River during the times listed above you will not be able to gain access to the Canal and the customer facilities using your boat.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, there may be some possible slippage to the timings above, however every effort will be made to re-open the River promptly each day. For more information:
