The repair works have been completed around the site of the leak and the water levels have now recovered.

The navigation has reopened.

Some of the pounds have successfully refilled, however there are 2 pounds still needing to refill before we can safely allow passage.

The pump has helped the issue and the team will be closely monitoring the water levels.

The navigation remains closed.

We will update the notice when further information is received

Investigations into the cause of the leak are still ongoing. We are getting a team ready to fix this as soon as it has been established.

The navigation will remain closed between Lock 13 east and Lock 1 east until the fix is in place and the canal has been re-watered.

We apologise for the inconvenience this causes.

Description

Further to the notice issued yesterday about the leak between Lock 12E and 13E we will be closing the navigation to all traffic to try to preserve as much water as we can in this section. As all the water coming down from above is going into the river at Golcar aqueduct we need to protect the rest of the canal and wildlife while we investigate and repair the issue. We will need to refill the canal from Lock 12E down after we have managed to repair the leak so it may take a short time between the repair and being able to reopen. We will of course keep our customers updated as often as possible and whenever new information is relevant.
