Description

As a result of major HS2 works, the main contractor has identified contaminated ground water during their works. As a result, the water needs to be transferred to a treatment tank before further handling.

Contaminated water will be transported via temporary pipework that will need to go over the canal and towpath. A temporary scaffold structure will be constructed to support the pipework carrying the water overhead, providing a clearance of approximately 4m. The scaffold structure will be constructed in sections. The supports either side of the canal will be installed first. This will cause no restrictions to our customers. The overhead scaffold section and pipework spanning the canal will be installed second, via a crane lift. The structure will be installed 560m South of Lock 86 and will be maintained by HS2s main contractor Align.

Boater and towpath customers will be affected by the restriction. The works are proposed to be carried out after sunset, between 7pm-10pm on the 22nd September. However, the lifting of the structure may be affected by adverse weather, whereby the lift may alternatively take place on the 23rd September, 26th September or 27th September.
