To conserve our water resources in this continuing hot and dry weather, we're having to prioritise the supply to key routes. Unfortunately this means we're having to close the eastern end of the Caldon Canal, to maintain water supply to the western end and the Trent & Mersey.
The Caldon Canal will be closed from Hazelhurst to Froghall until there is a significant improvement in water levels. We'll continue to review this, particularly in light of the planned autumn closure of this section for bridge replacement works, and will provide updates as soon as they are available.
The remainder of the Caldon Canal, including the Leek Branch, will remain open to navigation.
Thank you for your patience and help in looking after our precious water resources.
