The works to repair the bottom end gates have been completed early, and the lock is available again for navigation.

Description

We're having to carry out emergency repairs at Hyde lock, to repair the bottom end gates. We've had a number of concerns raised over the condition of the paddles, which are increasingly difficult to operate. With no ground paddles on these gates, and the summer holiday period rapidly approaching, we need to ensure that the gate paddles remain safe and usable for boaters of all levels of experience.

We're therefore looking to close the lock for 3 days, to properly investigate the cause, which we believe is the gate planking moving around the paddle hole, thereby distorting the paddle frame when the lock is full. We're planning to fix this by fitting the gates with bracing plates to remove the "bowing" effect, an approach which has been successful elsewhere.
