Our local operations team have been to site this morning to let the waiting boats through the Summit lock flight, Lock 36 to Lock 45, on the Rochdale Canal, unfortunately this has reduced the water levels along the flight.

Whilst this is finalised, navigation will be open from 8am till 10am daily, to allow passage to waiting boats. Navigation will then close to allow the Summit to replenish.

An update will be provided Monday 11 July.

20/06/2022 12:01

We are pleased to advise we have normalised the water levels on the Summit Lock Flight, Lock 36 to Lock 45, on the Rochdale Canal and navigation has resumed.

To reduce the risk of further vandalism, Lock 36 to Lock 45 will be open as per the following opening times:

  • 8am till 4pm, daily

Padlocks will be placed on the above locks outside of these hours.

You can help us conserve water by:

  • Ensuring paddles are fully closed once they have passed through a lock.
  • Aiming for minimal contact when navigating through locks by ensuring gates are fully open as they pass through. Pushing gates open using a boat can damage the gate lining, increasing its leakage.

16/06/2022 16:46

Please be advised navigation remains closed on the Summit Lock Flight, Lock 36 to Lock 45, on the Rochdale Canal due to low water from vandalism experienced earlier this week.

Whilst the Summit level is recovering, we have 2 empty pounds below which we will need to replenish before navigation is possible. This will take a minimum of 2 days.

Our teams will continue to manage the limited water supply to support the rise in water levels and a further update will be provided Monday 20 June.

Please be reminded, once navigation has resumed, to reduce the risk of further vandalism, the following opening times will be applied:

  • Lock 36 to Lock 45 will be open from 8am till 4pm daily.
