Following yesterday's assessment of North Lock, it remains unsafe for boaters to operate unassisted. We will therefore be offering assisted passage to boaters on a Tuesday and Friday between 1pm and 3pm from Tuesday 22nd August 2023.

So that we can make the best use of our resources, pre-booking is required by 5pm on the Monday and Thursday before passage.

Bookings can be made by telephone to 0303 040 4040 (option 2 then 5, for East Midlands) or by email to enquiries.eastmidlands@canalrivertrust.org.uk. Please provide the date of your booking, your boat index number/name, your name and your contact details, in case we need to speak to you about the arrangements.

Assisted passage will continue until we are able to make the full repair. The notice will be updated once we have confirmation of the start date for the work, but we currently anticipate this will be around 18th September 2023.

The deterioration of the condition of North Lock means that it is unsafe to be used by boaters unassisted.

The Lock is temporarily closed while colleagues visit to assess its operation and agree a plan to support passage through the lock until a full repair can be made.

We will provide an update by 12pm on Wednesday 16th August.

The top lock gates at Lock 42, North Lock on the River Soar are leaking, causing difficulty when opening the bottom gates.

When using the lock please open both paddles on the bottom gates from the offside and wait patiently for the water levels to equalise. This may take some time.

The local team are monitoring the situation and will carry out repairs as soon the work can be scheduled.

Boaters are asked to proceed with care and to leave the lock full after use, as this will help us to manage the situation.
