Water levels have continued to improve so we will be in a position to reopen the navigation at 10am tomorrow morning, after removing the chains at Lock 21E and Lock 9E.
To manage any build-up of passage requirements through Lock 1E, which is especially susceptible to low water levels, we will be locking up Lock 3E and for any passage booked through Lock 1E, you will now be assisted from/to Lock 3E also.
Just as a very important reminder to all boaters, if you have any issues with low water during your navigation, it is essential that you do not attempt to move water yourselves and instead call our Customer Services team on 0303 040 4040.
A member of the local team will attend to investigate and work to resolve the situation. Water resource is and will continue to be a significant challenge for us all this year and it is vital that the local team are in a position to control and manage this water very closely themselves. You can however help by making sure all paddles are closed once you have navigated through any of our locks as this is an easy mistake to make but can lead to significant water loss.
Thank you for your patience whilst we have investigated and repaired this structural failure and restored water levels.

The temporary culvert repair between Lock 20E and Lock 21E was completed last week and the low pounds have been gradually refilling.
We will be reviewing the situation on Monday morning and if we are confident that the water levels can support navigation again we will reopen.
An updated notice will be issued on Monday afternoon confirming our decision. We thank you for your patience.

CCTV has been undertaken and the repair work is due to begin on Friday 17th June.
Once this repair is complete, we anticipate it may take up to one week to refill this stretch of canal in order to make it navigable.
We will provide a further update once the repair work is completed.

A CCTV of the culvert in the pound between Lock 20E and Lock 21E is currently being arranged to provide an overview of the extent of the fault and the associated repair required. We will provide a further update on predicted timescale for repair once this has been undertaken.
We appreciate your patience whilst we investigate this leak.

Due to the leak through the bed culvert previously identified the pounds have dropped between Milnsbridge and the problem. We have closed the canal between 9E and 21E as we cannot send water to fill the in between pounds as it feeds from Hilltop Reservoir into pound 23E above the issue and will not reach where it's needed. There are mooring points in the pounds above 21E and below Lock 9E and turning points in case Boat customers decide to turn round. Once we have an update on the repair we can further update the notice to inform when we will be able to reopen the canal.
