Saltersford Large Lock

We would like to advise customers that our contractors will be on site for a further 3 weeks. However, the lock is open to boaters via our usual booking system. Craft wider than 6 meters will be restricted during this period. 

We need to move the start date for these works back from 10/01/2023 to 21/01/2023 to accommodate delivery lead times for mechanical and electrical equipment. The team on site will be working additional hours to complete the works by the originally published end date of 17/03/2023.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused to our boating customers.

We would like to advise of some additional information that we feel may be helpful to our customers.

The works taking place during this stoppage are to remove, replace and upgrade the outdated electrical and hydraulic control systems that currently operate the gates and ground paddles.

We have reviewed the programme of works to try and incorporate some planned dates where the lock to be used by boating customers during this work period. However, we regret to advise that we cannot provide guaranteed passage dates through the lock. without significantly adding to costs and the duration of these works, 

If during the works, opportunities do become available to provide short durations to permit the safe passage of boats through the lock then we will provide as much notice as possible to allow you to book a passage.

A stoppage is required to carry out renewal of the hydraulic system at Saltersford Lock.
