Navigation Closure: Lock 65 to Lock 81, Rochdale Canal

Our Reactive Response Team have completed the concreting at Lock 72 on the Rochdale Canal, and this will be left to cure over the weekend. The fabric dams and scaffolding will then be removed on Monday and Tuesday and navigation between Lock 65 and Lock 81 will resume at 11am on Wednesday 1st June.

Our North West Reactive Response Team have now removed the damaged concrete slab which has blown at the base of the tailgate, along with removing two tonnes of debris. The team will now remove and refit the timber cills to prepare for the concrete base.

Navigation remains closed between Lock 65 and Lock 81 and a further update will be provided by Friday 27 May.

Site is now fully set up in order to complete the repairs to the damaged concrete apron behind the cill at Lock 72 on the Rochdale Canal and our Reactive Response Team await the finalised design of works from our engineers.

We anticipate works will take 2 weeks, subject to our contractor’s available dates to remove the scaffolding and dams once works are complete.

An update will be provided by Friday 27 May.

The workboat to assist with the repairs to the damaged concrete apron behind the cill at Lock 72 on the Rochdale Canal will be arriving to site early next week, with the dams fitted onsite Tuesday and the scaffolding installed Wednesday 11 May.

We will have a better understanding of the works required, and the timescale of the repairs, once the lock is dewatered and our engineers can enter the lock to complete a full assessment.

Our teams are now working together to organise a safe working practice and source the materials and specialist equipment in order to carry out a repair.

Following initial inspections, we suspect it could be a blown cill, however more in-depth inspections are being carried out tomorrow, following which we will know more about the issue and repairs needed.
