Between Aylestone Mill Lock 39 and St Mary's Mill Lock 40 - Leicester Line (Grand Union Canal)

Our contractors have been on site all day, and have managed to clear a passage along the navigation.  

Wide beams may still struggle, but most boats should now be able to travel along this section. 

Please proceed with extreme caution, as there is still a lot of tree to still be cleared.  

Our contractors will be back on site on Monday to continue clearing the tree and debris.  

We appreciate our customers continued patience. 

Unfortunately, the works required to clear the trees, continues to be a difficult task.

Our contractors are assessing all options to get them removed, but we are still struggling with several issues such as access, land ownership and the sheer size of the job.

We have been involving our estates team to assist us with the access, but this unfortunately is not a quick process.

We completely understand the frustrations of our customers, and please be assured we are doing all we can to have these trees cleared as quickly as possible.

At this moment in time, we do not have a time scale for how long this job is going to take.

We currently advise that it will at least be another week and so if boaters can make alternative travel arrangements, we recommend that they do so.

We will of course update our website if anything changes and as soon as we have a more clear time scale of when the navigation will be open again.

We apologise for the inconvenience this is causing and appreciate our customers patience at this time. 

Our contractors have been working hard to find a solution, but unfortunately this is not a straightforward job and we have come up against some unexpected complications.

We will continue to do all we can to clear these trees as quickly as possible, but in the meantime our navigation remains closed.

There are several trees down blocking the navigation and towpath between Aylestone Mill Lock 39 and St Mary's Mill lock 40 on the Leicester line. 

Contractors have attended site but require a crane boat to remove the trees.

The navigation and towpath will remain closed until this can be arranged.
