Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal - Fallen Trees

Contractors have now successfully cleared around 25 trees that fell as result of Storms Eunice and Franklin, and the towpath is passable for the whole length.

Unfortunately, large, difficult trees which pose access and engineering challenges continue to obstruct the navigation at Bridges 90, 94 and 119. In addition, we suspect that one tree already cleared at bridge 149 may have pierced a culvert beneath the bed. The latter is under investigation by Trust colleagues. 

Contractors are developing methods for safe removal of the remaining obstructions, which also protect against further damage to the Canal. We will publish a notice for each location, with links to pictures, and update these as work progresses.

Further to the notice below, our contractors have been busy all week clearing as many fallen trees as possible for us.

Unfortunately due to a number of them being very large &/or difficult to get to we have not been able to clear all of them yet.

Work will continue and we hope to have navigation open as soon as possible.

Please be advised a large number of trees have fallen along the whole length of the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal as a result of Storm Eunice. Our contractors have been working hard to remove them since the storm started.

We are aware that more trees may fall this weekend and we will continue to work with our contractors to ensure that the towpath and navigation are cleared as quickly as possible.
