Our local team will be closing Cranfleet Flood Gates tomorrow, in preparation for our contractors working on behalf of Network Rail, who are carrying out a full bridge replacement during the stoppage.

Details of this can be found on the link below - https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/notices/19544-bridge-7-railway-bridge-sawley-upper-trent

This does mean that the navigation will be closed at this location, until the works are completed on the 4th January.

The towpath and suspend towpath moorings between Bridges 7 and 8 on Cranfleet Cut will still be closed until the 21st January.

A diversion is in place for the towpath, with separate, alternative routes signed for foot traffic and wheeled traffic, both routing from above Trent Lock on the Erewash Canal to Bridge 8 on Cranfleet Cut.

Note that these diversions are on Public Rights of Way that are, in part, unsurfaced, and may deteriorate in poor weather.   Gates have been provided in place of stiles on the diversionary route for wheeled users.  Please ensure these gates are closed after use.

Description

Towpath Closure and Mooring Suspension

In advance of the canal stoppage occurring from 17th December 2021 – 4th January 2022, Story Contracting will be carrying out a variety of works on and over the towpath to enable the main works to occur safely and efficiently.

To enable these ancillary works to occur, we have agreed to close the towpath and suspend towpath moorings between Bridges 7 and 8 on Cranfleet Cut from the 15th December to the 21st January.
