We are pleased to advise our teams have been successful in installing a new lock gate bracket to Lock 85 on the Rochdale Canal.
Our teams have been able to carry out repairs to secure the gate temporally. However, as a result of the repair the gate will only open wide enough to facilitate entry of boats with a 7ft width or less.Our engineers are now planning a further repair to enable full width navigation to resume and a further update will be provided Friday 23rd July.
Please take care when navigating through the lock whilst this restriction is in place.

Please be advised our teams are in the process of making a new bracket to repair Lock 85 on the Rochdale Canal due to issues found with the redesign. Our team will now be onsite Thursday 15 July to install the bracket in to place.
An update will be provided Thursday 15 July.

Our teams have now established a method to be able to safely repair Lock 85 on the Rochdale Canal. We are now in the process of sourcing the equipment and materials needed and will be onsite Tuesday 13 July to start the works.

Our specialist teams have met together onsite at Lock 85, Piccadilly on the Rochdale Canal to further inspect the lock gate. Whilst trying to create a method of repair, the teams have further noted severe deterioration to the gate, meaning we are unable to utilise our usual method of repair. In addition to the underground location of the lock, we are now having to develop a new design and methodology which will allow us to safely remove the gate from site.
We anticipate these works will take 1 – 2 weeks, and an update on progress will be provided Friday 9 July.

Please be advised on inspection of Lock 85, Piccadilly on the Rochdale Canal yesterday, it was noted that further works are required to a split heel post before we can install the new bracket.
Design specialists will be onsite tomorrow to determine what temporary works are required to repair the heel post.
A further update will be provided Thursday 1 July.

The design for the replacement steel bracket to repair Lock 85, Piccadilly on the Rochdale Canal has been approved and is being fabricated this week.
We will then be onsite Monday 28 June to dewater the lock and further inspect the gates. Subject to the outcome of this inspection, it is our intention to then start the works to install the bracket into place. We anticipate these works will take 3 days.
An update on progress will be provided by Tuesday 29 June.

Our teams have met with our specialised contractors onsite today at Lock 85, Piccadilly on the Rochdale Canal to create a method of repair. Our contractors have now designed the replacement bracket, which now requires approval from our engineers, and due to being a listed structure, Listed Building Consent is required.
Once we have received this approval and the bracket has been fabricated, our teams will work together to install it in place.
It is anticipated we will have a more understanding on timescales by Wednesday 23 June.
