We are currently experiencing short-term operating challenges at Anderton Boat Lift as a result of colleague sickness. In the interest of safety and the smooth running of the lift it is necessary to make changes to private passage availability throughout October.
During the week commencing 4 October private passage will be available on Tuesday 5, Saturday 9 and Sunday 10.
Throughout the rest of October passage will be available every Tuesday to Thursday plus Saturday and Sunday.
We understand the importance of planning your journey and we apologise for any inconvenience. We are doing everything we can to get back to a full service for 2022 and we look forward to seeing you at the lift.

Anderton Boat Lift Summer Operating Times 2021
From today, Friday 16 April until Sunday 2 May, the Lift is operating 4 days a week: Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, only.
- Monday & Friday: 10am – 4pm
- Saturday & Sunday: 10am – 5.30pm
From Monday 3 May, the lift will offer a 7-day operation:
- Monday to Friday: 10am – 4pm
- Saturday & Sunday: 10am – 5.30pm
It is important that all boats travelling through the Lift have the correct license, Boat Safety Certificate and valid insurance. Please make sure your details are up to date prior to booking as these will be checked during the booking sequence.
Bookings can be made via your online account. Alternatively, you can call and book with our team by calling 03030 404040 between Monday to Friday, 8.30am till 5pm and Saturday & Sunday, 10am till 2pm.
Next available slot on the day is free of charge, however this passage is subject to availability, otherwise, charges of passage do apply.
Please ensure that you arrive at the holding area 30 minutes before the scheduled passage.
This window gives our staff an opportunity to visually check the boat for any potential issues, and more importantly, allows time for the safety briefing to be delivered and to answer any questions that might arise.
You will be charged the full amount should you fail to turn up for your booked passage. Failing to turn up has an adverse impact on the efficiency of the Lift and our limited operational staff.
