Between Albert Street Bridge (Bridge 4) and Victoria Road (Bridge 1), Bridgwater, Bridgwater & Taunton Canal.

The navigation has now been re-opened.  However, for safety reasons, the towpath will remain closed between Albert Street and Victoria Road until Friday 26th March 2021, during the hours of 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.  The towpath will be open at the weekend.  

Please use an alternative route during this towpath closure.

Our contractors have been unable to mobilise the site to begin work today and the start of the stoppage has been put back until Wednesday 3rd March. However, they have also reviewed their methodology for carrying out the ground investigation works which means they will still be able to re-open the navigation on 12th March as planned.  In addition, the navigation will be open for passage during the weekend of 6th and 7th March.

Please also be aware, for safety reasons, the towpath will be closed between Albert Street and Victoria Road from Wednesday 3rd March until Friday 26th March 2021, during the hours of 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. The towpath will be open at the weekend. Please use an alternative route during this towpath closure.

Unfortunately we have encountered some unavoidable delays in preparing for this closure and, as a result, we need to delay the start of the stoppage by one week. 

The navigation and towpath will now be closed between 22nd February and 12th March 2021.

A ground investigation is to take place between Albert Street Bridge (Bridge 4) and West Street (Bridge 3), Bridgwater & Taunton Canal. 

The ground investigation will consist of drilling boreholes and digging trial pits in the towpath and surrounding area.  Holes will also be drilled into the retaining walls on the towpath side and offside. 

Therefore, to ensure the safety of pedestrians and boaters, the navigation and towpath will be closed between 15th February and 5th March 2021.
