The Islington eco-mooring trial project is about to reach the phase of works on site. Works will commence on site on the 7th September 2020 and should be completed by the first week in November. We expect that the trial will begin in November 2020 when the moorings will open for bookings.

The Canal & River Trust and Islington Council are creating an ‘eco-mooring zone’ for visiting boats between York Way and Danbury Street on the Regent’s Canal.

Supported by funding from Defra, the zone will include electric charging points to provide boaters with an alternative to running boat engines to generate energy.

This comes as the issue of air quality gains greater public attention, with both local and national Government increasingly committed to measures to reduce air pollution in our cities.

Canal & River Trust and its contractors will aim to minimise disturbance to boaters, towpath users and residents as much as possible whilst the works are ongoing. There will be three phased mooring suspensions and towpath closures throughout the installation period. The dates below are approximate and subject to change, but we expect the closures to occur as per the below.

•           Zone 1: Colbrooke Row to Danbury Street - Mon 7/9/20 to Tues 22/9/20, inclusive.

•           Zone 2: Treaty Street to York Way - Weds 30/9/20 to Weds14/10/20, inclusive.

•           Zone 3: Caledonian Road to Muriel Street - Thurs 22/10/20 to Weds 28/10/20 inclusive.

The towpath and moorings will be open as usual outside these closures and diversion routes will be clearly marked.
