Lock 42, Limekiln Towpath Side Lock, Trent & Mersey Canal

Our contractors are now onsite at Lock 42, Limekiln Towpath Side Lock on the Trent & Mersey Canal. Following a further inspection, a CCTV Survey is now necessary to confirm what works are required to repair the bywash.

The pound between Lock 42 and Lock 43 will be drained today at 12.30pm to allow our contractors to carry out the survey safely and accurately.

Navigation will resume by 2pm today, with customers using Lock 42, Limekiln Offside Lock for passage.

Unfortunately, works to repair Lock 42, Limekiln Towpath Side Lock on the Trent & Mersey Canal have been delayed due to an issue with installing the required dams.

Our teams have liaised with our contractors and the repairs will now take place on Monday 2 August.

Unfortunately, due to our diving contractors’ prior commitments, we have not been able to arrange a date for works to repair Lock 42, Limekiln Towpath Side Lock on the Trent & Mersey Canal and we have had to adapt our methodology.

Our teams will now be undertaking the works and are organising dates with our contractors to be able to install the dams required. The work boat needed to repair the lock is currently being used on another restriction, therefore we anticipate the works will be carried out at the end of April.

As investigations continued, a blocked by-wash culvert has also been discovered by Lock 42, Limekiln Towpath Side Lock on the Trent & Mersey Canal.

Our engineer is currently in the process of organising a CCTV survey to establish the cause of the blocked by-wash and is in discussions with our Local Heritage Team about the method of repair for the damaged stop plank groove.

Given the heritage constraints of the site (the lock is Grade II Listed) it is anticipated this will take in excess of 6 weeks before works can commence onsite. As a result, the lock will remain closed and an update will be provided by Friday 30 October.
