We are sorry to advise that the works at Bathwick Ramp have been delayed due to technical reasons and the impact of Covid-19 restrictions and lockdown.

Unfortunately the affected towpath must now remain closed until the new completion date of 9th October.

We understand that this may disrupt our visitors’ plans, but the ramp is an important heritage asset and we must look after it responsibly for future enjoyment.

If you require any further information please contact us on [email protected]  should there be any aspect you would like to discuss.

Please be advised that the section of towpath in Bath between Cleveland House and Bathwick Hill will remain closed between 15th June and 1st September 2020.

The towpath is currently in the process of being upgraded. We did attempt to reopen the towpath temporarily whilst work was ongoing, however there were too many trip hazards present. For the safety of all users, this section of towpath will now remain closed until the work is complete. Darlington Wharf however, has now reopened fully.

The work which is currently being undertaken includes: the installation of new drainage channels to divert the natural springs under the towpath; the banks being piled; a historic ramp is to be reinstated and have additional parts added; and a strip of resin bound gravel will be installed adjacent to a new handrail at the back edge of the ramp at Bathwick Hill. The first layer of the new towpath surface has been installed and there is a six-week waiting period before the final surface dressing can be added. We aim to begin the next phase of work the week commencing 10th August, weather permitting.

Description

Please be advised that we will be working on the towpath between Cleveland House and Bathwick Hill to improve its condition, and need to close the affected section between these dates, to allow the work to be completed safely and efficiently.

Access to the site is difficult by road, so we plan to use Darlington Wharf for delivery of materials. This means that mooring at Darlington Wharf will be suspended for the duration of work, for approximately 4 boat lengths from the bridge. The area required will be marked by pegs on the bank throughout the works and we ask boaters to please honour the marked area to avoid delaying the work and increasing the Trust's costs.
