Repairs to Bridge 1 and Bridge 2, Bootle, Leeds & Liverpool Canal

We are pleased to advise the scaffolding from Bridge 1, Carolina St Changeline Bridge and Bridge 2, Stanley Road Changeline Bridge on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal has now been removed and navigation is clear of any restriction.

The towpath and both footbridges are now back open to the public.

Additional brickwork repairs were needed to Bridge 2, Stanley Road Changeline Bridge on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal which has delayed the reopening of the towpath between Bridge O, Coffee House Bridge and Bridge 2B, Litherland Road Bridge.

Works to repair the brickwork are expected to be complete by Friday 28 August. Removal of the surrounding scaffolding will commence Tuesday 1 September, and we anticipate this will take 1 week.

Please note, whilst navigation is open, the towpath will remain closed during these ongoing works.

An update will be provided by Tuesday 8 September.

Works to repair to Bridge 1, Carolina St Changeline Bridge and Bridge 2, Stanley Road Changeline Bridge on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal have progressed well, however work has been delayed due to additional repairs needed.

Bridge 1, Carolina St Changeline Bridge repairs and repainting are complete. A new decking has been fitted and the scaffolding will be removed week commencing Monday 17 August.

Bridge 2, Stanley Road Changeline Bridge has been repaired, however painting will start week commencing Monday 17 August.

Please note, whilst navigation is open, the towpath will remain closed during these ongoing works.

We anticipate all remaining works will be complete and scaffolding removed by Friday 28 August, in which we will provide an update.  

Please be advised we will be onsite from Monday, 8 June to carry out crucial repairs to Bridge 1, Carolina St Changeline Bridge and Bridge 2, Stanley Road Changeline Bridge on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal.

Scaffolding will be placed on both bridges reducing the maximum air draft to 2.7m (8’ 10”).

Please note, the towpath will be closed from Bridge O, Coffee House Bridge to Bridge 2B, Litherland Road Bridge during these works.

We anticipate the works will take 10 weeks, subject to ongoing government restrictions in relation to the coronavirus crisis. An update will be provided by Wednesday, 12 August.
