Bridge 54a, Junction of the Regent's Canal, to Bottom Lock 3, Bow, Hertford Union Canal.

A further extension is required to this stoppage. A licence has now been issued to enable our Ecology Team to relocate the coot nests.

An inspection has taken place and we are hopeful to relocate the nests this Monday and Tuesday. This means that re - watering of the canal can take place later in the week and we aim to have the navigation re - open from the morning of Monday 19th April.

Please note that the Fabric Dam is due to be in place on 7th/8th of April. Re Watering of the canal is now due to take place on 10/11th April, with the navigation opening 12th April. Your patience is appreciated and we're sorry for the delays.

There are some coots nesting which we are currently seeking approval from appropriate authorities to have the nests relocated in order for the Re - Watering to take place, if this causes further delays we will keep the current notice up to date.

Our work to repair the waterway wall on the Hertford Union Canal is underway. However, following de-watering of the navigation and inspections by our Engineers, the extent of the damage to the wall is much greater than originally anticipated. As a result, we require additional time to complete these repairs.

We will do everything we can to re-open the navigation on, or before, 9th April 2021.

We would like to clarify details for this stoppage. 

The Hertford Union Canal will be closed from Bridge 54a, the junction with the Regent's Canal, to Bottom Lock 3. 

Navigation on the Regent's Canal will not be affected and boats will be able to turn at the junction, next to Bridge 54a.

A stoppage is required on the Hertford Union Canal to enable detailed inspections and repairs of the waterway wall between the junction of the Regent's Canal and Bottom Lock 3. 

Navigation on the Regent's Canal will not be affected.
