Thank you for your comments. We appreciate everyone’s concerns and the need to keep, as much as we can, some routes open during the winter. In this area we have tried to find the best options for the Llangollen, Shropshire Union, Middlewich Branch and Trent & Mersey Canals as a whole, and the many stakeholders who will be affected. This has to be balanced with working out the best programme for our construction teams, including the logistics of moving plant, equipment and materials from site to site, as well as the amount of time available (pre or post Christmas) to carry out the repairs needed at each location. Following the first phase of consultation we have made some changes to the programme, including deferring two stoppages on the Trent & Mersey Canal. Unfortunately, however, it hasn't been possible to change the dates for closures on the Llangollen.

As the Llangollen was closed all of last winter and all hire companies have lost at least half of their income this season cannot this stoppage be done at the same time as Chirk to allow boating until after Christmas otherwise Llangollen will in effect be closed for the whole of another winter.

Could the stoppages at this end of the llangollen canal be done at the same time as Chirk Tunnel?, This would leave Navigation open until after Christmas, rather than closed all winter.
