Locks 49 and 51, Barrowford, Leeds & Liverpool Canal

Whilst undertaking the planned works on the bottom end gates at Lock 49, our operations team identified additional repairs to be carried out on the top gates which will reduce leakage.

The stoppage will be extended until Friday 5th March to enable these works to be completed whilst the navigation is de-watered.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Unfortunately the operations team working on Lock 49 has had to isolate due to Covid-19 and work on site has been put on hold.  This means we need to extend the stoppage by two weeks, until 26th February, to enable them to return to work and complete the repairs needed.

Please be aware we will now need an additional week to complete our stoppage works at Barrowford. This is to enable our construction and operations teams to move plant and materials by boat between the two locks safely and effectively, prior to and after the works.

Please note the new end date of 12th February 2021 and accept our apologies for any inconvenience this change may cause.

A stoppage is required to carry out repairs as follows:

Lock 49: Repairs to the bottom end mitre cill and rubbing strips. 

Lock 51: Installation of new top and bottom gates and improvements to the lock ladder.
