The Trust have had to close a large number of construction sites due to the COVID-19 outbreak, as they could not be worked on in compliance with current government guidance. However, the works at Ivy House embankment are safety related, therefore we have taken the decision to restart this project and continue the necessary canal repairs here. The site operatives will be strictly following rules in relation to social distancing.

Works will commence on 27th April to 19th June 2020.

Thank you for your patience whilst we continue this important work.

Remember, as part of efforts to tackle the Coronavirus crisis, we are asking all boaters to stop non-essential travel, so please limit movements to access vital facilities – you can find out more at https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/enjoy-the-waterways/safety-on-our-waterways/coronavirus/coronavirus-and-boating-faqs

Please note the revised start and finish date of these works, which has been postponed.

We apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

The Canal & River Trust will be undertaking necessary mitigation works to repair a leak within the embankment at Ivy House. Whilst on site, the contractors will also be installing and upgrading the existing towpath between Ivy House Lift Bridge and Bucknall Road Bridge.

In order to undertake the work, our contractors will require waterborne craft within the navigation to undertake the works. The works will also require plant on the towpath to undertake required works to the existing towpath. This will mean the navigation will be restricted to single lane only throughout the works and a full towpath closure between the nearest access points.
