We are pleased to advise our team have managed to fill navigation ahead of schedule. The engineer has overseen passages and is satisfied with the operation of the lock. Navigation has now resumed at Lock 2 on the Rufford Branch.

Our team have been onsite today to fit the new bracket in to place at Lock 2 on the Rufford Branch. Upon removing the rotten bracket, the team have discovered other components that are showing signs of severe deterioration. Our team have managed to do a temporary repair onsite to allow our customers to be escorted through the lock tomorrow, Friday 8 November. Our local team will be onsite tomorrow to refill the pound and operate the lock from 12pm.

To ensure the safety of our customers and to be able to fully open navigation, our engineer will also be onsite to review the operation of the lock.

A further update will be provided by 4pm tomorrow, Friday 8 November.

Fabrication of the new bracket is going well and we are hopeful our team will be onsite Thursday 7 November to install the new part.

Our team will then need to make sure the gate can be operated safely and have the work signed off by our engineer.

We would like to thank our customers on their patience and understanding regarding the emergency closure at Lock 2, Rufford Branch.

The bracket is still in fabrication stages, however we are mindful of the planned Winter Works at Bridge 2a, commencing 11 November and appreciate customer’s travelling plans.

This closure will remain high priority and an update will be provided early next week.

Navigation will remain closed at Lock 1 and Lock 2 whilst a new bracket is being fabricated.

The lock has been deemed unsafe to operate and is being treated as a high priority. Ongoing discussions are taking place whilst we plan the repair, which includes arranging a possible road closure and crane hire to be able to fit the bracket in place.

An update will be provided as soon as our teams have finalised the method of repair.

Our engineers have carried out further investigations and will be having an onsite meeting with a specialist contractor, tomorrow, Tuesday 29 October.

An update will be provided tomorrow afternoon.

Description

After a recent inspection by our engineers, for the safety of our customers, Lock 2 on the Rufford Branch is closed to navigation due to an issue with the gate post.

Whilst a method of repair is being arranged, navigation will remain closed.

Lock 1 and Lock 2 have been padlocked and an update will be provided Monday, 28 October.
