The repair work at Holt Lock has been completed successfully but, as a result of the flooding over the last two weeks, it has not been possible access the site in order to remove the wooden stop planks.
The closure will remain in place until it is safe for our staff to carry out the de-mobilisation of the site and we will update this notice as soon as we have any further information.
Thank you for your patience in these difficult conditions.

Please note the new dates for this stoppage.
Further flooding and high river levels on the River Severn means it has not been possible to move the crane boat past Worcester Bridge to Holt Lock in order to commence works on site. The current river levels will also prevent the safe use of cofferdams at the site. Even if the flooding situation improves in the next week, we will not be able to complete all the works before Christmas.
As a result, we have made the decision to delay these works until the new year.

Please note the new dates for this stoppage.
Following the recent wet weather, the area around Holt Lock 8 on the River Severn Navigation is currently in flood. This has caused significant delays in getting equipment to site and preparing for the planned repairs.
As a result we will have to delay the start of the stoppage by two weeks, to 18th November 2019. We are hopeful the work works will be completed by 20th December but please be aware we may have to make further changes if there are more periods of similar heavy rainfall.

We originally hoped to utilise timber stop planks as a cofferdam at the top end of Holt Lock to exclude the water from the lock gate recess ready for carrying out repairs.
However, following further assessments of the anticipated river levels, a steel cofferdam needs to be installed at the top end, along with a cofferdam at the bottom end of the Lock. The work involved to transport and install the steel dam, and the associated dive surveys, will mean an additional week will be required to complete the works.
Please note the new start date of 4th November 2019
Description
A navigation closure is required for repair works to the timber cill and concrete apron of the top end gates.
This will also include works to reduce leakage by re-planking the top end gates as well as checking and re-setting the gates to reduce leakage around the quoins.
