The fire, which started on Tuesday 6 August, has affected the stability of several commercial buildings on Oxford Street East, the decision was taken to begin demolition of the unsafe structures caused by the fire, and good progress has been made making the area safe.
We have been advised that from tomorrow Saturday 10th August we will be able to re-open the canal and towpath, our teams will be on-site in the morning opening the locks and towpath.
Description
Due to an ongoing incident on the Ashton canal, above lock 18 – in the Guide bridge to Oxford road East area.
The canal is closed between Lock 18 and Bridge 28 until further notice due to an ongoing fire service incident, adjacent to the canal.
