Further to the stabilisation works completed at Lock 16, Semington, in 2019, we have conducted a detailed 3D laser survey of the chamber, as part of our planning for this winter’s work. This has revealed pinch points downstream of last year’s repair which will require more work than was originally envisaged to rectify. To avoid abortive works and minimise the impact on customers, we have therefore taken the difficult decision to cancel this winter’s stoppage at Lock 16. This will enable us to develop a full scope of the works required at this location and prioritise the project with regard to future works in the region. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused by this change to our winter programme.

Following our recent update regarding the stoppage at Lock 16, we sincerely apologise for the late notice of the update and for the change to the start date of the closure. 

We are having to delay the start by two weeks to give us more time to finalise the detailed design which, unfortunately, has taken longer than expected.  We will be increasing resource on site to ensure the completion date remains the same. 

Again, we do apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Please note the new start date for this stoppage.  Our contractors have requested additional time to enable their site mobilisation. 

The end date of the stoppage is not affected.

Description

A stoppage is required to complete the emergency works undertaken in January - March 2019. 

This will include brickwork repairs, quoin replacement and gate relining works.
