Description

Limited water resources due to lack of rainfall in the local area, combined with technical difficulties, mean that it has unfortunately become necessary to restrict navigation over the summit of the Kennet & Avon Canal. The affected area stretches from the bottom of Caen Hill Flight to the bottom of Crofton flight.

We are of course doing everything we can to manage and resolve the technical issues, but this work could take up to a month and it is likely, depending on recovery of natural water resources, that some restrictions will continue to be needed throughout the summer.

The water available and progress with works will be frequently reviewed and adjustments to the restrictions made accordingly.

Initially, from Friday 21st June, the length described above will be restricted to working between 10:00hrs and 16:00hrs every day, which means that last entry into Caen Hill Flight will be at 13:00hrs.

It will not be possible to physically lock every structure, and we will not clear the area of vessels outside these times, but we ask boating customers to please help us manage the situation and limit future restrictions by not drawing water through any lock outside of the working hours, and by minimising their use of water as much as possible at all times. Should you have concerns about levels during this period, please contact the Trust.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding in this matter.
