Description

Welford at 50’

This event will celebrate the 50th anniversary of British Waterways working with the Old Union Canal Society to reopen the arm to navigation in 1969.

This project was undertaken as the 1968 transport act declared the Leicester Line as a remainder canal, and as the feeder for the summit, Welford had to be reopened to allow for sufficient water supply to the 22 miles between Foxton and Watford.

There will be historic boats, canal crafts and traders, local stalls from the village community and historical stalls showing the how the village was in a previous life time.

Please note that the mooring spaces between the feeder and the top lock gate will be reserved for 4 days to allow the historic boats to moor for the event taking place. Please note the mooring spaces will be reserved from 16/05/2019 until 20/05/2019 as this will allow time for the historic boats to leave the mooring spaces.
