22/10/2018 15:30

Investigations into the cause of the problem will continue on Tuesday 22nd October.

In the meantime the locks will remain closed and we will provide a further update as soon as we have finalised our plans for repair.

Our engineering team carried out an initial inspection this morning and located a number of holes behind the lock walls with running water.

In order to determine the precise nature of the problem they need to carry out more investigations and so on Monday 22nd October, plant will be brought in to excavate behind the walls to give a better understanding of the problems faced.

Until this further investigation is complete and the nature of the problem is fully understood, we feel the safest option is to keep the lock closed. We will update the notice on Monday afternoon.

Description

As a result of sink holes appearing we have padlocked closed locks 9E and 11E until tomorrow morning when an engineer will make an assessment if the lock is safe to operate. Customers will not be able to travel through these locks until it's decided to be safe to do so.

Our contractors who are already on site, will carry out repair works ASAP. Please ring 0303 0404040 if you need any more information about these locks. An update will be published tomorrow after the inspection.
