Unfortunately the water levels have not replenished sufficiently enough to re-open navigation on the Wigan Flight.
We are therefore keeping the Wigan Flight closed overnight whilst more water is brought through and we will re-open navigation at 08:00 Saturday 10th September. This is so that the surrounding areas are not affected by the excess of drawn water to replenish the Wigan area and causing more customers problems east of Wigan and the fading light.
Thank you for your continued patience
Please be advised that Wigan Flight is closed after a vandalism incident at 3:00am this morning. Five pounds have been fully drained and flooding has been caused to surrounding area.
Water is being brought down to refill the pounds but we envisaged this to take all day to bring levels back to normal and enable free navigation through the area.
Affected Locks are Wigan Top Lock 65 to Lock 78 at Rosebridge. This area will be locked to ensure the recovery of water in the area.
Staff are on hand to help if needed
We apologies for the inconvenience this will cause.
An update will be issued today at 16:00
