Following a request from customers and an additional period of consultation we have decided to reduce the period of the stoppage from the original 10 week closure to five weeks. The revised stoppage period will now run from 9th of January to 13th February. This will allow greater opportunity for our boating customers to move during the post-Christmas winter stoppage period.
To facilitate this reduction in duration we have had to decrease the scope of the works undertaken this year and we will be concentrating efforts on the repair of the bottom lock gates. The result is we will be returning to Glasson Lock next winter to complete the works to the top gates. Having undertaken a cost benefit analysis we have concluded that the financial impact of this decision on the Trust is negligible and is outweighed by the benefit to our boating customers on the Lancaster Canal.
