Eastwood Footbridge

The Canal & River Trust are pleased to announce the contractors have completed the work ahead of schedule.

Eastwood Footbridge and the navigation are now available for normal use.

The work is now planned to install Eastwood Footbridge.

Skippers of all craft are requested to slow down and approach the working area with caution and follow any instructions given by the contractor whilst passing the works. A short delay of up to one hour maybe necessary if contractor’s equipment is required to be moved out of the way.

For safety, the towpath will be closed in the vicinity of the bridge at times during the works but will be opened whenever possible. The towpath will be open during the Christmas period of the 5th December until 5th January 2015.

Due to members of the public trying to access and attempt to cross the bridge through the safety fencing, the bridge staircases have now been completely removed. We are now planning to remove the rest of the current footbridge and install the new footbridge all in one go. These works are scheduled in for Autumn and we will update the notice once we have confirmation of the date

It is planned to remove the current Eastwood Footbridge in May 2014.

The replacement footbridge is scheduled to be installed in the Autumn. We will provide a further update once an exact date has been confirmed for these works to go ahead

There is a temporary closure of Eastwood Footbridge over the South Yorkshire Navigation near Rotherham.

This temporary closure is necessary due to concerns over its condition. Work to design, fabricate and install a new bridge is being carried out. 

The navigation and towpath are unaffected by the closure of the bridge.
