After further investigations, scaffolding is needed to secure the masonry back in to place. Scaffolding will be installed tomorrow and our team will facilitate the repair.
The towpath has been made secure and is re-open to the public.
A further update will be issued tomorrow.
Unfortunately, we have had to close the canal at Bells Bridge, Bridge 68 on the Lancaster canal, which has been damaged today by a vehicle.
Following, initial inspection to the bridge by our engineers, it’s apparent that several masonry blocks have been dislodged which are hanging over the canal and towpath.
Our teams are sourcing equipment to remove the dislodged masonry blocks from the bridge to make it safe for our customer.
We will provide a further update tomorrow afternoon with details of when we plan to re-open the canal and towpath.
