Updates

29/11/2018 13:22

Unfortunately, our teams have not been able to reach sufficient levels that we had anticipated in order to re-open the canal for navigation. Our teams are drawing water down from the summit but this is taking longer than expected.

We are likely to re-open next week but a further update will be provided on Monday 3rd December.

Our teams are continuing to bring the water levels back up in Manchester. However, it’s going to take a little longer to ensure the canal is at a navigable depth this should be achieved by tomorrow evening with the canal back open on Friday morning.

Our teams had sucessfull managed to bring the water levels back up over the weekend only to find that the canal has once again been subjected to another act of vandalism.

The canal along the Rochdale 9 has been dewatered. However, the teams will be working over the coming days moving water to raise the water levels.

A further update will be provided on Wednesday afternoon.

23/11/2018 14:09

During the week the local teams had successfully raised the water levels up in the section of canal between lock 92 and 83 to facilitate opening today.

Unfortunately further vandalism has occurred which has resulted in Piccadilly basin and the pounds between Locks 84, 85 and 86 being completely emptied.

The local teams will over the coming days be moving water from other areas of the network to raise these levels, however we don’t envisage this section being reopened until Monday evening.

A further update will be provided on Monday morning

Description

It's apparent overnight that there have been paddles left open on several locks along the Rochdale 9, which has caused the canal to drain between Locks 92 & 83.

Our local teams are currently working to recover the water levels following this vandalism. However, this will take all day and part of the morning tomorrow to recover the levels.

We’re sorry if this has caused you any difficulties.  We’ll keep monitoring the situation and we will have the canal open for 12noon Tomorrow Friday 23rd November.
