Embankment between Portland Basin Stone Bridge and Stanley Lift Bridge 1, near Dunkinfield, Peak Forest Canal

Following the de-watering and inspection of the washwall, our engineers are satisfied with the condition of the existing wall and have confirmed that a full re-build is not required.

As a result of this good news, we plan to re-open the navigation on Wednesday 21st November once the localised leak sealing works behind the wall are complete.

A closure is required to carry out repairs to the River Tame Embankment in order to minimise leakage through the structure.

We are monitoring the leakage closely at present and will continue to do so in the weeks leading up to the proposed closure. 

If the situation worsens, we may be required to bring forward the closure to enable emergency works to be carried out.  We hope this is not the case but will provide as much notice as possible if it proves necessary.
