Lock 3, Aston Lock, near Aston on Trent, Trent and Mersey Canal

Unfortunately, we will be unable to complete the repairs needed at Aston Lock 3 as we had hoped and planned.  

We have had considerable additional work to do including the complete replacement of quoins and collars on all the gates, followed by the replacement of the top and bottom gates, as well as extensive brickwork repairs to the lock chamber walls.  

The team has been working hard to complete this work as advertised (including working at weekends) but more time is needed to finish all the additional repairs required.  

It is now expected the navigation will re-open on Sunday 24th March.   We sincerely apologise for this delay.

Additional works have been identified at Aston Lock 3 which require an extension to the duration of the navigation closure.

In addition to general repairs and improvements to the locks, new quoins will be installed prior to the replacement of the top and bottom lock gates.
