In line with the construction update published this afternoon, please note that planned works have been extended for one week.  The new completion date is Friday 8 December.

Please see below for further navigation notes.

Description

Winter stoppages have been planned for Lock 37, Lock 41 and Lock 45.  Works are due to begin on Monday 20 November 2017.

For the safety of our construction team and for the safety of your vessel we require all boats moored between Lock 22 and Lock 50 to vacate the full length of the Caen Hill Flight by Sunday 19 November 2017.

Pounds will be drained to facilitate the scheduled repairs to Locks 37, 41 and 45.  However, other pounds will have lower than normal water levels throughout the flight.  Craft not vacating the Caen Hill Flight put themselves at risk of severe listing.

In addition, boat movements within the flight could have a life-threatening impact on the construction team, if temporary damns are breached by the unregulated movement of water.  Thus, a decision has been made to close the full length of the Caen Hill Flight.

Canal & River Trust staff and volunteers will be on the flight over the weekends of both 4/5 November and 18/19 November to provide information and assistance, if required.

For clarity, it will be possible to move in a westerly direction down the flight until Sunday 19 November (ahead of the Caen Hill stoppages).

In an easterly direction it will be possible to move on the weekends of 4/6 November and 18/19 November, before and after the Maton Lock 49 closure.

The completion date for the Caen Hill Flight closure is currently 1 December 2017.  Any delays to this date will be posted on line.
