Description

Water leakage through Lock 7 Acton’s Lock in Hackney is causing difficulties maintaining pound levels suitable for navigation along the Regent’s Canal.

We are also experiencing low water levels on the 26 mile ‘long pound’ between Camden and Cowley. This is no doubt a product of the recent hot weather, but more immediately is being exacerbated by paddles being left open on locks along the Regent’s Canal.

As a result we need to introduce a period of time restrictions on use of the locks from: Lock 1 Hampstead Road Lock to Lock 7 Acton’s Lock, between 9pm in the evening and 7am the following day.

Hopefully this restriction will last no longer than necessary

The ‘long pound’ is principally fed by water from the River Colne in Uxbridge, and by closing the locks overnight we’re giving the pound more time to recover.

Our teams are continuing to check and regulate water levels seven days a week, with the support of our electronic system (SCADA). We are also working closely with the Environment Agency.
