We are pleased to confirm that the Environment Agency have completed their work at Blakes Lock and the navigation is now open.

Environment Agency update:

Due to surface pollution the Environment Agency have decided to boom the navigation at Blakes Lock.  Exit and entry onto the Kennet & Avon canal is no longer possible.  The navigation is now closed at this point until further notice. 

Description

Pollution incident on the stream known as Foundry Brook.  This brook connects to the River Kennet on the south side of Reading close to where the A33 crosses the river. The Environment Agency are on site with booming equipment and are dealing with the incident. The navigation remains open; however, this may change at short notice.

Proceed with caution.

Oily sheen can be seen downstream of this confluence into the city of Reading.
