Paddle boarding on the Kennet & Avon Canal

After work we come to the water and get fit paddle boarding. You can feel the muscles working in your body when you're paddling. When you do it in the right way you're not working with your hands, you're building your muscles around your middle body. Of course your legs keep the balance. We think paddle boarding is really good for general fitness, and it's fun.

Since we first started paddle boarding, we've done the river and the sea, and that was really challenging, but on the canal there are no waves and we can paddle for about an hour along the water here without even having to stop.

We're from the Netherlands and are here in Bath housesitting for a working week. I knew there were canals in England so we brought our paddle boards with us. We have a lot of canals in the Netherlands of course, so we can paddle board quite a lot in our own country, but we think the canals here are lovely and the canal boats are wonderful. Our week here has been a busy working week, so paddle boarding is helping us feel fit and relaxed.

Some paddle boards come as a board, but ours are inflatable. We find this type useful because we can just pack them up into the car. Of course having to pump them up before we can use them is quite hard work, but it's all part of the fun. It's like a double work out.

Both boards are blown up, so we can set off now. Climbing onto the board in the water can be tricky. If we fall off, you will have an even better picture!
