The charity making life better by water

Meet Emma and family

Location: Stourport-on-Severn, Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal

"We won this narrowboat holiday in a competition! When we won the voucher, Sidney was just a tiny baby, so we decided to keep it until he was bit older and could enjoy it more.

It's Poppy the dog's first trip on a boat as well. She likes it on the front bow where it's peaceful and quiet, but she's not keen at the back of the boat where the engine noise is.

We've just come up off the River Severn. We're heading along the Staffs & Worcs Canal and planning to cruise to Stourton Junction. I think that's as far as we'll get because the boat is due back by Friday, but we'll go further if we can. I think autumn is a nice time of year to go on a boating holiday because it's so pretty and there are fewer boats cruising on the water. We don't have to wait at the locks and there are plenty of places to moor up. And we haven't had any rain yet!

Because it's quiet, it's amazing how much wildlife we've seen as well. There are kingfishers everywhere - we've seen five kingfishers in this area here! And we haven't just spotted the blue streak that you usually catch from the corner of your eye as a kingfisher flies over the water – we've been able to watch them sitting on a perch.

Right now we're going to find a tea shop. When you're on holiday, you can't beat a good cup of tea!"
