Meet Dewi at Pontcysyllte Aqueduct

Dewi, Pontcysyllte Aqueduct

When I first came here four years ago there was snow all across the landscape and it was just beautiful. I'm not really the sort of person to notice stuff like that, I'm usually more for football and sport. I'm not sure my wife knew what to make of me and she told me: "You're changing!" I've been coming here one morning, every week, for four years now! I love being a volunteer at the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct.

The best thing about being here is the view - and that's not just what I think, it's what visitors say to me as well.

People are always telling me that the aqueduct and the canal are being looked after and kept so well. I wouldn't want anything to be spoilt by over commercialisation and I think that it's especially nice that, even though it's a World Heritage Site, it feels quite natural.

But it's not just the views I enjoy, I like coming here because I meet different people from all over the world. I also get to chat to local people too. There's one lady who comes here every morning to walk her Labrador dog and to just sit and watch people passing by. It's so lovely getting to know all sorts of nice people and I love our mini community here. This is such a relaxing place to be.
