Meet Beverley & Luka

They're a very boingy breed and he likes to say hello to people. Luka is an Irish Water Spaniel and, yes, he likes the water! They're bred to go in water so he went in yesterday, and he went in this morning! Even though their coat looks curly, they have bare tummies so when he goes in the canal he gets cold afterwards and I have to get the hairdryer out.

I live by the canalside and I've done 20 years of this towpath. I've always had German Shepherds and I walked the canal towpaths here with them too. I've had five German Shepherds and I love them, but when I lost my last - three years ago, in two weeks' time - I was adamant I wasn't having another dog, and I definitely wasn't having another German Shepherd because my last one was so special.

I'd seen Irish Water Spaniels at Crufts and I thought, 'they look fun!' That's how I came to have Luka. He was born in September 2016 and there were only 191 Irish Water Spaniels registered that year, so they are quite rare. He's such a good dog. They look hilarious and they're called the clown dog. If you want a dog that will make you happy, even when you're in the foulest of moods, get one of these! I can't even get angry with him. They're not crazy but they are very bouncy, and he's such a character. We have a lot of fun on our walks - he's a cracking dog.
