Canal & River Trust has been informed that Old Ford Lock River Services Ltd, which operated the Water Chariots Olympic passenger boat service, has gone into Administration.
The company had been granted a six month licence by the Trust on 26th July 2012 to operate that Olympic service. The Trust was paid in full for that agreement. Recent media reports of a 15 year agreement are incorrect.
The significant legacy investment in boating infrastructure on the River Lee is unaffected by the demise of Water Chariots. This includes towpath improvements and more accessible embarkation points for people getting on and off boats. These works were largely funded by public money (principally from London Thames Gateway Development Corporation and the London Borough of Haringey) to deliver a lasting legacy that will benefit boaters.
